Dubai 2011: Big LEAP for the CFM order book

CFM's new baby – the LEAP engine – has already racked-up orders and commitments for around 2,450 units to power Airbus A320neo, Boeing 737 MAX and COMAC C919 airliners at a list price of more than $29 billion.

To date, CFM has received orders for 910 LEAP-1A engines to power 455 Airbus A320neo aircraft.

Orders have come from: Air Asia – the airline that placed the largest single order in aviation history at this year’s Paris Air Show – for 200 of the narrow-body airliners; CIT Aerospace; GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS); International Lease Finance Corporation; Republic Airways Holdings; SAS; and Virgin America, the airline that officially launched the new engine on June 15.

Three months ago, Boeing announced that the LEAP-1B would be the sole powerplant on its new, re-engined, B737 MAX narrow-body. As well as a 100-aircraft order from American Airlines, Boeing has received commitments for around 500 additional airframes.
