UAE workshop focuses on GNSS applications

The workshop will cover the use of GNSS in aviation, marine, roads and highways, rail, space, agriculture, forestry and natural resource exploration, surveying and mapping.
Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum opened the workshop, which was attended by Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, the Minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research, and other senior officials from the UN, US, and the UAE government.
The event, at Dubai Men’s College (DMC), is being hosted by the Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology (EIAST) in co-operation with the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA).
The Director General of EIAST Ahmed Al Mansoori said that this is the first ever to be held in the UAE. “Through this workshop, we are keen to strengthen the exchange of information, collaboration and advances in the use of GNSS across several sectors. This will help us to establish a broad framework for regional and international co-operation.”
The workshop aims at maximising the benefits of the use and applications of global navigation satellite systems to support sustainable development, improve medical and public health services through the use of space technologies.
The participants will also tour the EIAST on a technical site visit.
