Qatar Airways extends German links and announces new routes at ITB Berlin

Qatar Airways made a big impact at ITB Berlin today as it announced new destinations for its growing network.

India, Norway and Bulgaria have been earmarked for new route devlopment as the airline spelled out its ongoing commitment to international growth.

Daily flights to the eastern Indian city of Kolkata will be launched on July 27, taking Qatar Airways´ capacity in India to 95 services a week spread across 12 cities.
In Europe, the airline is to launch four-flights-a-week to the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, from September 14. While five-flights-a week to Oslo, Norway, commence October 5.
 
The airline also embarked on the latest phrase of its 2011 expansion drive by launching three-flights-a-week to Stuttgart, its fourth German gateway.
 
Qatar Airways chief executive officer Akbar Al Baker announced the plans at the world´s largest travel show:   “The new services to Kolkata, Sofia and Oslo reflect our commitment to connect diverse global cities via our Doha hub. Kolkata becomes our 12th city in India, while Sofia is another example of serving underserved markets. And with Oslo set to be part of our network, Qatar Airways will strengthen its presence in Scandinavia as the biggist Gulf-based airline flying tot he region."
 
Al Baker added: "This week in Berlin is a busy one for us. We are pleased to announce that Stuttgart will be added to our route network, which will further enhance our presence in Germany, clearly proving how important this dynamic market is for Qatar Airways.
 
"In three days time we will also be increasing the number of flights between Doha and Munich from daily to 11 flights a week. And at the end of the month, our Frankfurt route will be upgraded from 10 to 13 flights a week with some of the services operated by our flagship Boeing 777 aircraft.
 
"All in all, frequency of flights between Qatar and Germany will rise from 24 to 34 flights a week, our biggest ever capacity increase to Germany in such a short timeframe."
 
The airline will also be launching non-stop flights from Doha to the Syrian city of Aleppo on April 6 which will be the airline´s 100th destination.
 
On June 5, the airline will commence flights from Doha to the Iranian city of Shiraz, followed by daily flights to Venice on June 15, the airline´s third destination in Italy.  On June 29, Qatar Airways will make its first entry into Canada with thrice-weekly flights to Montreal.
