Saudi plane makes emergency landing at Chennai airport

Saudi Arabian Airlines had one of its planes flying from Kuala Lumpur to Jeddah conduct an emergency landing at Chennai airport in India, after pilots reported smoke emanating from the cockpit.

Flight SV841 was flying over India when the pilots noticed smoke and notified air traffic control at Chennai airport. After landing at Chennai all of the flight's 210 passengers and 22 crew were evacuated immediately.

Chennai ATC allowed the aircraft - a 747-400 - to land and took the appropriate precautions with fire tenders and medical teams put on standby at the airport. The aircraft was then checked thoroughly before being certified as fit to fly.

Arab News has reported Saudi Arabian Airlines’ spokesman Abdullah Al-Azhar as saying: “It was not a major problem and all passengers are safe.

”Flight SV841 took off from Chennai for Jeddah a few hours later after it was checked by engineers and technicians at an isolation bay in the airport.”
