In a statement today the airline said that the seizure of the Swiss-owned and registered aircraft was “manifestly illegal because it is based on a judgment opposing parties other than ECAir and the amount awarded in this judgment is not due to anything involving Equatorial Congo Airlines.
“Equatorial Congo Airlines will assert its rights in court to release from arrest and to obtain compensation for damages in a short time,” the airline said.
The company made arrangements to limit any inconvenience caused to its passengers.
“Our lawyers are hard at work to recover the Boeing 757-200 to return to the Equatorial Congo Airlines fleet,” the airline spokesman said.
ECAir’s fleet consists of seven aircraft serving 10 destinations from Brazzaville (Pointe-Noire, Ollombo, Cotonou, Douala, Bamako, Dakar, Libreville, Kinshasa, Paris, Dubai, Brussels.
In the coming weeks, Equatorial Congo Airlines will be expanding its network with the opening of its third intercontinental destination in Beirut and new regional destinations in Luanda, Abidjan, Yaounde, Bangui, N'Djamena.
