A spokesman for EIAST said that DubaiSat-2, will be a much bigger satellite than the existing DubaiSat-1 with more advanced capabilities.
EIAST launched the UAE's first earth observation satellite at a cost of US$50m in July last year.
The images it collects are being used for urban development, scientific research, telecoms, transport, construction and mapping.
DubaiSat-2 will be technologically more advanced than its predecessor and will have better commercial applications. It will produce higher resolution images, which will be commercially available.
EIAST also said that there are future plans for DubaiSat-3A and DubaiSat-3B.
