The Assistant Director General of the UAE’s GCAA Air Navigation Services, Al Jallaf, says the GCC Executive Committee has given the go-ahead and a vendor has “almost been selected” with the secretariat general now in final vendor discussions. Al Jallaf says the project is likely to go-ahead by the end of this year.
Al Jallaf is a strong proponent of regional airspace enhancement and co-operation. “I look at this project as a great regional opportunity to enhance the safety and efficiency of air traffic operations in the Gulf and it will certainly compliment what we are doing in the UAE,” he said.
“In the UAE, the GCAA embarked on a major airspace restructuring project in 2013 with the initial phase conceptual design for the lower airspace being completed early this year and Phase II for the en-route airspace, currently underway alongside the drafting of implementation roadmaps.”
