dnata receives IATA’s environmental management certification

This is in recognition of its unwavering commitment to sustainability across its diverse portfolio of businesses in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

IATA Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) is a certification programme developed to independently assess the commitment of aviation stakeholders such as airlines, airports, cargo handling facilities, freight forwarders, and ramp handlers, to continuously improve their environmental and sustainability performance.

IATA’s comprehensive evaluation encompassed 74 mandatory and all three optional modules, rigorously assessing dnata’s sustainability practices and efforts across its extensive operations in the UAE. In addition to its corporate Headquarters, ground handling and cargo businesses, dnata’s airport hospitality brand, marhaba, and inflight catering joint venture, Alpha Flight Services (Alpha), have also been certified through IEnvA’s hospitality module. DUBZ, dnata’s baggage technology and logistics company, also received the certification. This remarkable outcome attests to dnata’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of sustainability.

Boeing donates $300,000 to assist Moroccan earthquake relief efforts

The company also pledged to match dollar-for-dollar monetary donations from Boeing employees who contribute to the cause, extending the reach of assistance provided to the Moroccan people.

“Amidst the devastation left in the wake of this earthquake, we extend our deepest sympathy to Moroccans who are enduring such unimaginable hardship,” said Ziad Ojakli, executive vice president of Government Operations at Boeing. “Boeing colleagues around the world are dedicated to supporting the people of Morocco, and we stand ready to collaborate with local partners to provide meaningful assistance that leads to healing, rebuilding and renewal.”

Boeing funding will support the following organisations:

$150,000 to the American Red Cross, in partnership with the global Red Cross and Red Crescent network, for shelter, food, health and mental health services and other relief such as hygiene kits, basic necessities and welfare information.

$150,000 to CARE International for emergency water, food and medical support for survivors.

“Thanks to Boeing’s generous support, the global Red Cross network is helping those affected by the Morocco earthquake,” said Anne McKeough, chief development officer at the American Red Cross. “We are grateful for partners like Boeing as we work together to provide comfort and hope for communities in the wake of this devastating disaster.”

“The reports we are hearing from the ground are heartbreaking. According to our team in Morocco, hundreds of people are sleeping in the streets at night, lying in blankets in parks in the heart of Marrakesh, too afraid to go home,” said Madden Manion, executive director of Corporate Partnerships, CARE International. “People are exhausted, and the emotional fear and horror of what they have experienced is indescribable. These coming days are critical, and the generous and timely support shown by Boeing will help us immensely in our work. CARE’s priority is to provide hot meals, safe water supply, emergency shelter, medical and psychosocial support.”

IndiGo now stands as the global partner and official airline for the Indian Football Team - affectionately known as the 'Blue Tigers’.

Football is among the three most popular sports in India, both in terms of player participation and TV viewership, making this partnership between IndiGo and the All-India Football Federation (AIFF) even more significant.

Emirates extends Inflight Meal Preordering Service across Europe

Cities include Warsaw, Venice, Rome, Bologna, Prague, Vienna, Moscow, Istanbul, Dublin, Hamburg, St. Petersburg, Brussels and Madrid, as well as to and from Seychelles and Mauritius.

The initiative will be rolled out across more global routes in the coming months. The new service allows passengers in Business Class to preselect their main course between 14 days and 24 hours in advance of their flight departure, ensuring they get their preferred choice every time as well as helping to reduce food wastage.

Inviting Emirates passengers to enjoy a fine dining experience in the sky, passengers will be able to browse the onboard menu on Emirates.com or on the Emirates app to choose from a selection of regionally inspired dishes with locally sourced ingredients, up to a fortnight before a flight. Business Class meals include a choice of chef crafted dishes such as chocolate hazelnut pancakes with apricot compote and ricotta sour cream for breakfast, beef tenderloin with thyme jus, roasted potato wedges and steamed vegetables for lunch, and pan-fried salmon trout with saffron cream, blanched green beans, braised beetroot and polenta with spring onions for dinner.

Onboard the aircraft, cabin crew will use digital devices to view the preordered selection and serve the passenger their choice of dish. Meal preordering is an addition to the existing suite of AI-enabled customer preference tracking data and cabin crew reports onboard Emirates, which facilitate menu planning, optimal food loading and waste minimisation.

dnata to deliver AI-powered solutions to drive cargo services in Singapore

Speedcargo’s artificial intelligence (AI)-based Cargo Eye and Assemble solutions installed at dnata’s facilities will help overall logistical efficiency, digitisation and optimise cargo capacity for Etihad Cargo’s daily flights departing from Singapore. The roll-out of Cargo Eye and Assemble follows the airline’s decision to implement the technology in response to successful trials.

Cargo Eye uses advanced, vision-based 3D technology to scan and capture a cargo’s exact dimensions, volume data, images, and labels, providing a comprehensive digital record. This information is then fed into Assemble which creates a digital plan, advising dnata’s highly-trained cargo handling teams of the optimal method of building a pallet. The innovative solutions ensure Etihad Cargo maximises cargo capacity, while becoming more efficient and sustainable.

Both Cargo Eye and Assemble seamlessly integrate into dnata’s existing warehouse management system.

Charles Galloway, dnata’s Regional CEO, Airport Operations – Asia Pacific, said: "dnata is proud to lead the digitisation of cargo processes through innovative technology solutions. Singapore was selected as the first station to go live with these state-of-the-art AI tools, which will boost efficiency, digitise and standardise cargo handling across Etihad Cargo's network and enhance service levels for the carrier's customers and partners. Following successful trials of the AI-powered cargo handling solutions, Etihad Cargo sought out a ground handling partner to deploy Cargo Eye and Assemble, and dnata was a clear choice, being fully aligned with Etihad Cargo’s commitment to utilising cargo-maximising technology to enhance air cargo operations."

dnata’s Singapore facilities are the first in its expansive global network to implement Cargo Eye and Assemble technology. Speedcargo is working with dnata to roll out the service at further global stations.

Ethiopian and AAICEC signs equity investment agreement

This is to establish an international convention centre in Addis Ababa that will host multiple business events.

The centre being built and named AAICEC, will be one of the major national projects with the objective of transforming the image of the country. Ethiopian is participating in this project through equity investment to boost conferences, tourism, and trade in our country.

Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew said: “We are truly pleased to be part of yet another initiative that would boost our country’s tourism, trade and investment. Playing a catalyst role as an aviation ambassador from its inception, Ethiopian has been promoting Ethiopia across its destinations. We have embarked on Ethiopian Skylight hotel and tourism projects with the aim to boost the country’s tourism sector. Now, embarking on this equity investment with AAICEC, we have ascertained our commitment to deepen our role for the proliferation of tourism. We are glad to be part of this major national project that will increase our country’s visibility as an international conference and exhibition centre.”

The centre is believed to increase conference tourism in Ethiopia by offering convenient tourism services. The project, which lies on an area of about 70,000 sq. m, is estimated to be completed by the end of the first half of 2024 encompassing indoor and outdoor exhibition venues, multi-purpose halls, conference centre, auditoriums, office space, shops, restaurant and café and children’s playground among other facilities.
