The agreement is expected to bring multiple benefits to Uganda’s aviation sector, making it more competitive, promoting economic development and generating employment opportunities.
Through ICAO’s Global Aviation Training (GAT) section, the partnership will see the establishment of a department within UCAA to assess training gaps and needs and develop a long-term training plan.
Fred Bamwesigye, UCAA’s director general said the agreement “reflects UCAA’s unwavering commitment to aviation excellence, human capital development, and its alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on industry innovation and resilient infrastructure as per the regulations of ICAO.”
Juan Carlos Salazar, Secretary General of ICAO, said: “ICAO is committed to supporting our Member States in their efforts to develop safe, secure, and sustainable aviation sectors. The agreement with Uganda represents a significant step forward in our shared goal of fostering the growth of aviation in Africa.”
In addition to enhanced training and capacity building the partnership will also improve regulatory oversight, ensuring that the East African country’s aviation sector operates in compliance with international standards and best practices.
It will also increase efficiency and safety, as well as the capacity of air navigation services and operations at Entebbe International Airport and 13 other regional airports and airfields in the country.
