"It's been an incredible seven years since we launched the nonstop Gatwick services but following a thorough review and analysis over the past 12 months, we concluded that we could no longer sustain the route for commercial reasons," said Al Baker.

The daily service is operated by an Airbus A330-200. Passengers booked on Gatwick services after 31 May will be offered alternative travel options to London Heathrow or Manchester.

Staff based at Gatwick will be offered the option of transferring to Heathrow, Manchester or elsewhere in the Qatar Airways network.
