Tim Clark strikes gold at Royal Aeronautical Society awards

Emirates chief, Tim Clark is making a special trip to London this week when he will be a guest at the famous Royal Aeronautical Society to collect one of the most prestigious awards in the industry

Clark will be presented on Thursday with a gold medal from the RAeS which is awarded for outstanding achievement in aerospace. 

The awards are held in conjunction with the 98th Wilbur & Orville Wright Lecture which will be given by UK's Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton on ‘Air Power in Ages of Austerity’.  

In 1909 Wilbur & Orville Wright came to London to receive the Society’s first two Gold Medals.  In years that have followed, honouring aerospace achievers has become a permanent tradition of the Society, which are recognised as the world’s most prestigious and long-standing aerospace awards for achievement, innovation and excellence.  

The winners this year are:  

Honorary Fellowship – Kenneth Maciver, CBE formerly of the National Defence & Aerospace Systems Panel, and Gordon Page, CBE formerly of Cobham, plc.  Awarded only for the most outstanding contribution to the aerospace profession; the Society’s highest distinction for aerospace achievement.

 

Gold Medal – Tim Clark, President, Emirates Airline and Professor Henry MacDonald, University of Tennessee, USA.  Awarded for work of outstanding achievement in aerospace.  

Team Gold Medal – Vectored-thrust Aircraft Advanced Control (VAAC) Harrier Team, QinetiQ, UK and the ATV Jules Verne Operations Team, European Space Agency, France.  Awarded for work of outstanding team achievement in aerospace.  

Silver Medal – Professor Srinivasan Raghunathan, OBE formerly of Queen’s University, Belfast.  Awarded for work of an exceptional nature leading to major advances or significant contributions in aerospace.  

Bronze Medal - Dr Antony Segal, Medical: General Practitioner.  Awarded for work leading to advances or noteworthy contributions in aerospace.  

Team Bronze Medal   Mobile Aircraft Support Unit (Afghanistan/Iraq).  Awarded for work leading to advances or noteworthy contributions in aerospace.
