New head of Saudi Arabia's civil aviation authority appointed

King Abdullah made the appointment last week by issuing a royal decree. The appointment was on the recommendation of Crown Prince Sultan, deputy premier and minister of defence and aviation.
Al-Sugair is a civil engineer and is well known in the higher echelons of the Saudi business community. He serves as a non-executive independent member of the Board of Mobile Telecommunications and is currently general manager of the Business Development Unit of the AMG conglomerate (Abdulqader Al-Mehaideb and Sons Company). In addition, he holds a position on the Boards of several Saudi companies, including Arabian Pipes Company, SAAB Corporation Company, and Eastern Petrochemicals Company.
Al-Sugair holds a master's and a doctorate degree in civil engineering from Stanford University, United States and is a member of the teaching staff of King Saud University.
