MEBA10: International Aviation Women's Association (IAWA)

Carol Ronan-Heath breezed into MEBA this week offering a fresh prospect for women in the industry. She has seen some success for her venture already. Last year the legal advisor for Emirates established a regional branch of the International Aviation Women's Association (IAWA) in Dubai.

Today there are more than 100 local members.

As part of the team that buys engines for Emirates, Ronan-Heath (pictured) believes a local branch of IAWA will encourage other women to enter the industry and develop their careers. She said: “I started in IAWA as a junior lawyer many years ago. I was invited to one of its conferences and was blown away by the motivational effect.”

Meanwhile, in Jeddah this week, HRH Princess Lolowah Al Faisal, vice chair and general supervisor of the board of trustees, Effat University, was scheduled to deliver the opening speech at the kingdom’s Women in Leadership (WIL) Forum.

The groundbreaking forum, hosted by business information group naseba, and local partner, STAR Group, is an invitation-only event, dedicated to women and their development in the community.

HRH Princess Al Faisal said: “This is an excellent opportunity to create economic roundtables where women can examine their role in the economy and develop entrepreneurial skills. I truly believe that forums such as this will help pave the way for the future of women in the kingdom.”
