MEBAA is stepping up its attack on illegal charter market operators. Founder chairman Ali Al Naqbi said the industry association wanted to educate pilots and passengers about the potential penalties of using aircraft not licensed for charter operations.

Alex Berry, director of the world’s largest brokers, Chapman Freeborn, warned that pilots could be jailed and passengers could be uninsured.

Managing director of Gama Aviation of Sharjah, Dave Edwards said: “People talk about the grey market. It is not. It is a black market.”

Al Naqbi said MEBAA would continue to push the civil aviation authorities in the region to take note and take action against those owners breaking the rules.
