Breaking News: Tewolde quits Ethiopian citing ill-health

Tewolde GebreMariam, the long-serving CEO of Africa’s leading airline – Ethiopian Airlines – has stepped down from his post after more than 35 years with the airline.

GebreMarian is said to have ill-health and is currently in the United States where he has been receiving treatment.

He joined the airline in 1985 and became its CEO in 2011.

He has been the most successful African CEOs ever, having brought about momentous change for the Addis airline through modernisation and matching standards of major global carriers.

He tendered his resignation last week to the government and it has been accepted. There is no comment from the airline yet and no news of any successor.
