Iran claims 98% capability for MRO on passenger aircraft

"98% of the repairing process of planes is currently being done inside the country," Director-General of the Iranian Aviation Organisation's Office for Engineering and Flight Capability Mostafa Haqiqatjou told the official FARS news agency this week.

"Right now, the repair and maintenance of all aerial vehicles of the country such as different types of Airbus planes, Boeings, including Boeing MD, and Fokker, are being conducted inside the country," he added.

The official added that the country's Aviation Organisation has prepared all the needed infrastructures for repairing a plane and has created the necessary licensing process.

Iran started developing a home-grown capability to repair different types of planes inside the country after the US-sponsored sanctions against Iran prevented the government from accessing certain parts for the maintenance of its western airliners.

In the meantime, Iran has started a plan since last year to renew its air fleet not only through purchasing foreign planes, but also through domestic production in a bid to improve conditions in its aviation industry.
