The engine firm which is a joint venture between Prat t& Whitney, Rolls-Royce, MTU and the Japanese Aero Corporation announced the agreement, at the Farnborough Air Show yesterday, saying the contract includes a long-term aftermarket support contract.
Deliveries are set to begin next year.
IAE vsaid at the show that the deal is worth $300 million saying Yemenia’s requirements include a need for hot-and-high performance given the altitude of the capital Sana’a International Airport.
Yemenia chairman Abdulkalek Al-Kadi said the engine “has demonstrated a clear performance advantage operating in the difficult environments at our home base”.
The airline already has the rival CFM International CFM56 powerplant fitted to its Boeing 737-800 fleet.
