Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and CEO Jim Albaugh and Homaid Al Shemmari, Mubadala Aerospace executive director, signed a strategic agreement to establish Strata, Mubadala’s advanced composite aerostructures facility in Al Ain, as a direct supplier to Boeing, with a strategic roadmap guiding the company to becoming a major tier 1 supplier. Strata is due to begin supplying 787 spoilers from next year, through FACC.

Al Shemmari said: “Boeing is trusted and known for its quality and safety standards. They will now work with Mubadala to help us get to those standards.”

In a second agreement, the advanced military maintenance repair and overhaul centre (AMMROC), announced that is working in partnership with Boeing Defense, Space & Security to provide support to military aviation platforms in the UAE.

Under the strategic agreement, AMMROC and Boeing are working together to ensure the right support infrastructure is in place for the operational readiness of UAE Armed Forces aircraft, including Boeing-built Apaches, Chinooks and C17s.

The new AMMROC MRO facility, part of the Al Ain aerospace cluster, is under development and due to open in 2014, with work currently being carried out at a facility in Abu Dhabi.

The agreement was signed by Dennis Muilenburg, president and CEO, Boeing Defense, Space & Security and Al Shemmari, and was followed by an exchange of gifts.
