The meeting, attended by 50 senior representatives from the region’s commercial, cargo, government and private aviation sectors, along with manufacturers, regulators and air traffic service providers , saw the re-election of the committee with Captain Jo Gillespie, (Gates Aviation Consulting) returned as Chair.

The GFSC, formed in 2000 by a group of Gulf based Safety Professionals, aims to create a forum through which the highest standards of aviation safety for the region can be pursued.

Captain Jo Gillespie said from humble beginnings, the GFSC has grown into a diverse and influential organisation enabling important and appropriate liaison with other bodies concerned with aviation safety.

“We have achieved an enormous amount over the years,” he said, “thanks in large part to the support we get from organizations such as Maximus, who recognize the benefits that can be gained through the forum, for the mutual benefit of everyone in, or connected to the region’s aviation industry. Over the last decade we have grown into a first class tool for sharing safety information and keeping the region’s aviation industry and its partners up to date with the best practices in aviation safety.”

Following the AGM, the 24th meeting of GFSC was held, during which numerous issues and recent publicly reported global aviation incidents, ranging from bird strikes and the carriage of dangerous goods to runway incursions were reviewed and discussed, within a context of enhancing safety preparedness locally.

Maximus Air Cargo President and CEO, Fathi Hilal Buhazza, said the company was delighted to once again support the GFSC efforts for safer skies across the Arab world and beyond.

“In Maximus our position towards safety is uncompromising, and is of paramount importance to our business and our clients operations and is simply non- negotiable. We invest heavily to ensure we deliver accordingly. We will also therefore continue put our full weight behind organizations such as the GFSC,” he said.
