The new lounge, which can cater up to 110 people at a time, covers 6500 square metres and provides panoramic views over the runway and apron at Heathrow.

The open plan design of the lounge’s architecture gives a sense of space, with the central area featuring a bar surrounded by well laid out business, dining, lounging, TV areas, prayer rooms, family rooms, and private rooms.

Gulf Air chief executive officer Samer Majali opened the lounge and said: “Air travel these days has become savvier and passengers, particularly premium travelers, have become more discerning. With airports increasingly becoming busier, lounges are no longer just a place to wait for flights or transit spots between connections; premium passengers look for an oasis of peace and comfort, expect higher levels of facilities, and personalized service. I am sure it will be a refreshingly different experience for our premium passengers.”

“One of the key components of Gulf Air’s new business strategy is to focus on improving our products and services we offer our customers. The lounge is an example of this. As we keep improving ourselves in our customer service on the ground, we will continue to add more features and facilities in the air as well, so that our premium customers enjoy a consistently enhanced experience throughout their journey."

Award-winning design consultancy James Park Associates (JPA) is behind the design of the new lounge. James Park, managing director, said: "The design of the lounge has been inspired by Bahrain's long history of pearl fishing and the Kingdom's reputation as the 'Pearl of the Gulf'.  It also reflects and reinforces Gulf Air's corporate identity, providing continuity with the interior design of the airline's fleet."
