US and Saudi in talks to help Lebanese defence spending

According to Lebanese state-run National News Agency (NNA) the Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri met with U.S. Assistant of Defense for International Security Affairs Alexander Vershbow. In Beirut this week and tackled the recent developments and on resuming the programme of the U.S. aid to the Lebanese armed forces.
The U.S. embassy in Beirut had earlier announced that America will supply Lebanon with 12 Raven unmanned aircraft.
The embassy released a statement noting that Vershbow visited Beirut on Monday to reaffirm U.S. commitment to providing security assistance to the government of Lebanon and the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF).
"Assistant Secretary Vershbow also confirmed that U.S. Congress has approved 100 million dollars in Foreign Military Financing for 2010. This will help the LAF continue its multi-year comprehensive training and equipping program," added the statement.
A senior delegation from Saudi Arabia is expected in Beirut on Sunday for top level political talks and it is understood that the Saudis may be prepared to help Lebanon with funding.
