New chair for Saudi defence business SAMI
Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) has named defence minister Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud as the chairman of the kingdom’s defence industry business.
SAMI is one of the Public Investment Fund (PIF) companies established in 2018 by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) to contribute to achieving the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 by localising 50% of the Kingdom’s defence spending.
The move is part of a restructuring of the board of directors. Other appointments for this term include Bandar bin Ibrahim Alkhorayef; Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Duailej; Engineer Talal bin Abdullah Al-Otaibi; Dr. Khalid bin Hussein Al-Biyari,;Yasir bin Abdullah Al-Salman; Engineer Omar bin Hamad Al-Madhi; and Engineer Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Suqair.
SAMI’s chief executive, Walid bin Abdulmajeed Abu Khalid, praised the efforts of the outgoing board which he said managed to lead the organisation to become one of the world’s top 100 specialised defence companies.
Prince Khalid, is a Saudi Arabian diplomat, and politician who was appointed Defence Minister in September 2022. Until then he had been Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to the United States since April 2017.
