Iran delivers latest Shalamcheh missile with UAVs targeted

The commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defence Base, Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli told the state owned newsagency that the missiles have already passed field and operation tests successfully . “ They can destroy low-altitude flying objects such as UAVs," Esmayeeli told the agency.

The Shalamcheh missiles are guided by the Mersad air defence system and are designed to be rapidly deployed into Iran's integrated air defence system.

Esmayeeli was talking as the country’s defence ministry delivered large numbers of the home-made mid-range surface-to-air missiles to the its national Air Defence unit.

Earlier defence minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi, outlined the performance and attributes of the Shalamcheh missile which is described as a Mach 3 mid-range missile which can also double up as a short-range system. Vahidi said the current range is 40km but he expected to see an increase in the next generation. He said Shalamcheh is equipped with the latest technology and has impressive capability in tracing and intercepting targets and in defusing and jamming electronic communications
