Dubai Airshow: Egypt increases its Falcon Fleet

The Egyptian air force has placed an order for 24 more F-16C/D Fighting Falcons. These will be Block 52 aircraft, a new variant for the Egyptians, and they will produced by Lockheed Martin at Fort Worth, and not by TAI in Turkey, where 48 of Egypt's 138 Block 40 aircraft were built.

Egypt is the world’s fourth largest F-16 operator, having ordered 244 aircraft in seven batches over the course of the long-running Peace Vector programme, and the type forms the backbone of the Egyptian Air Force fleet.

With a backlog of just 76 aircraft, Lockheed Martin needs F-16 orders if it is to avoid the possibility of an expensive production gap at Fort Worth, pending the full production of the new F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
