The carrier, which ordered two firm ATR 42-600s and two options earlier this year, placed an additional order for three firm ATR 42-600s, the total value being worth $132 million at list prices.

NordStar Airlines will now become the first operator of the new ATR-600 series turboprop in the Russian Federation. The airline already operates four ATR 42-500s; the new order bringing its total number of airframes to nine.

Kirrill Buryy, general director of NordStar Airlines, said: “We have been operating four new ATR 42-500s since May 2011 and the aircraft have fully met our expectations in the difficult environment of the Krasnoyarsk region in Russia’s far north.

They have become very popular among our passengers and, with the arrival of the new ATR 42-600s, we will further expand our travel offer, with new routes and additional frequencies within the Krasnoyarsk region.

“The new ATR-600s will feature the ‘Armonia’ cabin and this will provide our passengers with even higher standards of comfort, including new slim seats, additional legroom and larger overhead bins.”

The three additional firm orders from NordStar bring the total number of firm sales of ATR’s range to 148 during 2011.
