Dubai 2011: New aircraft on track for delivery

Delays in the software development of the fly-by-wire systems for the Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 will not delay the entry of the aircraft on to the market, according to Embraer's Claudio Camelier, vice president market and product strategy.

The two new members of the Legacy family are in development and progressing well, with ground testing due to begin in December 2011.

However, the first flight is delayed until the third quarter of next year, due to problems with programming in the Iron Bird fly-by-wire system.

Camelier said: “There are other tests we can accomplish in the first half of the year and we will bring the aircraft to market by the end of 2013 or beginning of 2014.”

The aircraft are the only ones in mid-size to offer full fly-by-wire controls.
