Aruba signs ICAO Cape Town Convention to strengthen registry security

The Aircraft Registry of Aruba is celebrating Aruba's accession to the ICAO Cape Town Convention making it the first of the civil aviation offshore aircraft registration jurisdiction to have done so.

The Prime Minister or Aruba and of the Netherland Antilles have signed the last document concerning the accession to the ICAO Cape Town Convention and Aircraft Equipment Protocol. Sources in Aruba say it is expected that the Kingdom of the Netherlands will accede shortly after the execution of these instruments and will make the proper Declarations under the Convention and Protocol.

The Convention and Protocol will enter into force three months after the ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Rome has deposited the documents with UNIDROIT as Depository and it is anticipated to be no later that September 2010.

“We are looking forward to offer the aviation industry and the financial institutions an additional important tool for the security of it assets, which only strengtheners the Aruba legal and financial framework,” a spokesman for the Registry said.
