Bahrain 2012: Aerobatic Twisters light up night sky

A firework-blasting aerobatic duo produced a spectacular finale to the first day of the Bahrain International Air Show last night as thousands of people watched them blaze a trail across the night sky above Sakhir Air Base.

The Twister Duo Aerobatics team brought its innovative new pyro display to BIAS, lighting up the night sky with a combination of fireworks, floodlights and magnificent flying.

The routine, first unveiled at the 34th Sanicole International Airshow in September 2010, makes use of aircraft-mounted floodlights and wingtip-mounted pyrotechnics, which leave a trail of sparks across the sky.

Here in Bahrain, the display was integrated within a full fireworks display.

Sponsored by the asset management company, Scottish Widows investment Partnership, whose name is emblazoned across the top surfaces and the bottom of the starboard wing of both aircraft, the Twister Duo team offers an exciting and environmentally friendly air display.

Pilots Peter Wells and Guy Westgate fly a pair of Silence Twister aircraft. The Twister is a state-of-the-art, easy-to-fly, compact, lightweight, all composite, single-seat tail-dragger, whose elliptical wing gives it the look of a classic Second World War Supermarine Spitfire.

The sponsors see a clear link between asset management and aerobatics, saying: “Real investment performance demands precision, rapid reactions and expertise… just like formation aerobatics!”
