The escalator will be operated by the country’s national carrier Middle East Airlines.

Caretaker Public Works and Transportation Minister Ghazi Aridi, who attended the ceremony at the airport along with Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Awad Assiri, praised the Saudi king for his support for Lebanon’s stability, peace and prosperity.

Assiri said the donation was an indication of the depth of Saudi-Lebanese bilateral ties on all levels.

MEA chief executive officer Mohammad Hout said: “The escalator will be used to serve Lebanon’s special visitors as well as humanitarian cases under the supervision of MEA   in cooperation with the Lebanese state.”
