Qatar invites bids for $11bn airport contract
Qatar is inviting contractors to bid for a key contract on the $11bn New Doha International Airport (NDIA) project, the state's largest deal so far this year, reported Meed.

The airport steering committee has invited four prequalified groups to bid by 14 October for the contract to build an extension to the passenger terminal, known as the north node or phase 3a.
The steering committee originally issued tenders for the extension in January. But in a bid to capitalise on falling commodity and contract prices, it withdrew the tender and retendered it as a fixed-price contract once it had completed the design.
The pre-qualifiers are Beijing-based China State Construction Engineering Corporation; South Korea's Hyundai Engineering & Construction Company; a joint venture of the local Midmac Contracting Company and Belgium's Six Construct; and a joint venture of Qatari Diar Investment Company and France's Vinci Construction Grands Projets.
The terminal extension is a five-level structure with a total floor area of 127,000 square metres.
The ground floor will accommodate passengers for transfers, the first floor is for departures, and the second for arrivals. The third and fourth levels will house a 100-room hotel.
The extension will connect to the main passenger terminal, which is being built by the Sky Oryx consortium, owned by Japan's Taisei Corporation and Turkey's TAV.
The first phase of the airport is scheduled to open in 2011.
