Qatar Airways boosts services with opening of new Doha Arrivals Terminal

The new Arrivals terminal, which at 13,500 square metres, is significantly larger than the airport’s existing arrivals area, includes a dedicated Arrivals lounge for Qatar Airways’ First and Business Class passengers based on the airline’s award-winning Premium Terminal. The new lounge features all-day dining, business centre, showers and other amenities to allow the airline’s premium travellers to freshen up or prepare for important business meetings before exiting the airport.
Qatar Duty Free, a subsidiary of the airline group, will operate a retail outlet at the new terminal. The new store provides a wide range of duty free shopping, including gifts, perfumes, cosmetics, toys and confectionary items prior to passengers collecting their baggage.
Also in the new terminal, Al Maha Services, which provides concierge assistance within the airport, will have its own dedicated lounge for passengers to relax in while their arrival formalities are completed.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said that the stand-alone Arrivals terminal building will bring much-needed additional capacity to the country’s only international airport and will free up space in the existing airport terminal for further expansion.
“Qatar Airways’ growth in 2010 has been phenomenal and we expect to continue in this vein through 2011 and beyond. The new Doha Arrivals facility will greatly assist the airline’s expansion plans between now and the opening of New Doha International Airport in 2012,” he said.
“The new Doha Arrivals terminal is an important step in the rapid expansion of Qatar Airways and will serve a vital function for the State of Qatar which is experiencing a massive surge in economic growth and influx of visitors.”
With four passenger terminals in operation at Doha International Airport the airline is introducing a colour-coded system to ensure travellers on Qatar Airways are directed to the correct terminal upon landing in Doha. Passengers travelling on Qatar Airways to and beyond Doha International Airport will receive special coloured baggage tags and boarding pass wallets upon checking in for their flight, which directs them to either the Departures & Transfers terminal, Doha Arrivals terminal, Premium Terminal, or the Satellite Transfers terminal.
