Pearl set to launch from Damascus on May 1

The new airline is likely to launch using a pair of British Aerospace 146-300s with at least one of the aircraft being leased from Spain's Orion Air.
It is unsure where the second aircraft is coming from but a spokesman for BAE Systems said it would not be from them as the company is unable to deal with airline or the country as a whole.
Syria's official news agency says the 96-seat jets are to be delivered to Damascus on April 29 ahead of first flights on May 1. The airline will operate the domestic route from Damascus to Aleppo with three flights a day and two daily flights to Deir Ez Zoor.
It will go on to route to Al-Qamishli twice-daily and Latakia twice-weekly.
Syrian Pearl is owned by Syrian Arab Airlines and investment company Cham Holding, and was formally established in March 2008. Cham Holding says it is aiming to develop a "full-service, customer-oriented" airline with a comfortable fleet and punctual service.
