Muscat Airport gets financial approval for development to begin

Delays to the start of work on the new Muscat Airport project may have just been cleared.

Reports from Oman suggest that the Omani Government's ministry of finance has finally authorised the expenditure - reported as being US$1.83bn (OMR706.3)  to build a passenger terminal at the Muscat International Airport,and approved the contract.

Arabian Aerospace had previously reported that a consortium of US-based Bechtel, BEC and Turkey’s INCA has been awarded the contract to build a passenger terminal, as part of a massive expansion.
The  new terminal building, is designed to handle 12 million passengers per annum as well as a new northern runway a air traffic control tower and a new air traffic management system will be operational by March 2014 according to the Ministry,

Oman is planning to invest heavily in improving it air traffic management systems across the country and the finance ministry has also approved US25 million for standardising the equipment at the regional airports to match those at Muscat International Airport and Salalah Airport development projects .
