GCAA takes steps to increase safety with ADS-B

The stations will be located at Tarif, Sharjah and in the new Sheikh Zayed Air Traffic Centre in Abu Dhabi and according to the GCAA will give ADS-B coverage of the UAE’s airspace and adjacent areas.
The authority also contracted the complementing control and monitoring unit, QCMS, which allows the user to monitor and maintain the ADS-B equipment from a central site to ensure system availability and performance.
ADS-B is considered as a reliable and cost-effective long term surveillance solution and is seeing a larger uptake among ANSP (Air Navigation Service Providers). The GCAA is pushing the completion of the new Sheikh Zayed Air Traffic Centre, which is designed to become the largest and most advanced air traffic management environment in the Middle East.
