Mahan Air records record growth and fleet expansion

Iran's oldest private airline, Mahan Air, has continued to grow in terms of passengers, revenues and fleet despite sanctions on the country.

The airline said in a statement that it experienced record growth in 2010, with available seat kilometres up by 31% to 7.9 billion over 2009. Passengers carried increased by 47% to 3.8 million. More than 15700 scheduled passenger flights were undertaken, with an average load factor of 75% a notable improvement over the 2009 figure of 69%.

The Mahan Air fleet grew to 32 aircraft during the year following the delivery of seven additional Airbus A300-600 aircraft.
Additional aircraft capacity enabled Mahan Air to increase frequencies on domestic trunk routes from both Tehran and Mashad whilst international service frequencies were increased to Bangkok, Istanbul and Amritsar. A new scheduled service was launched to Kuala Lumpur and Almaty as well as Phuket during the 2010.

Mahan began operations in 1992 and has continued to grow.
