Emirates airline has confirmed that a plane carrying 275 passengers and crew has been "involved in an accident".

It said the flight - a Boeing 777-300 registration A6-EMW - was EK251 coming from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.

Eye witnesses say that the flight had appeared to make a normal approach but that landing gear collapsed. However shortly after the crash Dubai was forecasting severe wind sheer conditions at the airport.

The plane is believed to have been evacuated and there are no reported casualties, the Dubai government media office said on Twitter.

All departures from Dubai international airport have been delayed until further notice, the Dubai authorities said, adding that the emergency services were dealing with the situation.
