The launch comes amid a significant shift in global travel behaviour, as the international pet travel services market is projected to hit US$4.6 billion by 2032, with Asia Pacific expected to lead growth over the next decade. This demand is reinforced by changing traveller expectations, with Allianz Partners USA reporting that pets now accompany over 40% of middle-aged travellers and nearly a quarter of senior travellers, underscoring a structural shift toward pet-inclusive mobility.

The airline said customers are still permitted to carry one power bank onboard with specific conditions listed below, but the power banks may not be used while in the aircraft cabin – neither to charge devices from the power bank, nor to be charged themselves using the aircrafts’ power source.

Emirates’ new regulations include:       

Emirates customers may carry one power bank that is under 100 Watt Hours.

Power banks may not be used to charge any personal devices onboard.

Charging a power bank using the aircraft’s power supply is not permitted.

All power banks accepted for transport must have capacity rating information available.

Power banks may not be placed in the overhead stowage bin onboard the aircraft and must now be placed in the seat pocket or in a bag under the seat in front of you.

Power banks are not permitted in checked luggage (existing rule).

Why is Emirates making this change?

Power banks primarily utilise lithium-ion or lithium-polymer batteries, and their function is as a portable battery pack designed to recharge devices on the go. The batteries contain lithium ions suspended in an electrolyte solution. The ions flow through the electrolyte, travelling back and forth between two electrodes as the battery charges and discharges. If the battery is overcharged or damaged, it may result in ‘thermal runaway.’ Thermal runaway in batteries is a self-accelerating process where heat generation within a battery cell exceeds its ability to dissipate heat, leading to a rapid and uncontrollable temperature increase. This can result in dangerous consequences like fire, explosions, and the release of toxic gases.

Emirates new regulations will significantly reduce risks associated with power banks by prohibiting their use while onboard the aircraft.

The agreement positions Emirates as Platinum Partner of FC Bayern Munich’s first team from the 2025-26 season through to the 2031-32 season.

FC Bayern also enjoys a robust club membership of 410,000, one of the largest in the football world, demonstrating deep community support and engagement. It also has fan clubs spanning more than 100 countries, reflecting its massive international appeal.

The multi-year partnership provides Emirates with prominent brand visibility on perimeter stadium and LED boards seen by global audiences as well as two premium pitch cam carpets. The agreement also includes exclusive ticket and hospitality allocations, plus a dedicated Emirates skybox at the club's home stadium, Allianz Arena. Additionally, Emirates will have access to FC Bayern Munich’s collective player images. The airline’s branding will also feature prominently in Club TV backdrops during press conferences, flash zone interviews and other public and digital events.

The agreement enables members of both Etihad Guest and the Azul Fidelidade programme to earn and redeem their respective loyalty currency on either carrier.

Etihad Guest members can redeem their miles on flights, worldwide hotel stays and holidays, or shop from a variety of products from the Etihad Guest Reward Shop. Azul Fidelidade member miles can be spent on hotel stays, car rentals, products and services at Azul Fidelidade Shopping.

It’s the latest move by flyadeal towards further integration with national flag carrier Saudia, which codeshares on its entire domestic and international network.
