Oman Air ground staff strike at Muscat Airport

A small number of Oman Air employees have gone on strike since Friday and have reportedly slowed down the operations at the Muscat International Airport according to the Times of Oman newspaper

A statement from he airline said that it was “disappointed to learn that an unofficial strike has been called by a small number of staff at Muscat International Airport.

"Oman Air's formal complaints and grievance procedures remain available to all members of the staff who wish to raise issues or concerns," said the statement.

According to the Times of Oman the airline managed 81 per cent on-time performance of all their flights between 0001 and 1800 yesterday.

"Oman Air's commitment to its customers is absolute and the management, in close coordination with the authorities and all service providers, will ensure that the airport continues normal operations of all our flights," said the statement.

According to sources, the workers are demanding better working conditions, fewer working hours, and better wages.

In February, up to 60 Oman Air staff went on strike in Muscat in a bid to force the carrier into providing training and promotions. The protesting Omani employees then claimed that promises made by airline officials that they would receive regular training and better compensation had not been kept.
