AW609 TiltRotor completes ground run
Finmeccanica has announced that third prototype (A/C3) of the AgustaWestland AW609 TiltRotor has completed its first ground run.
The prototype completed the run at the company’s facility in Italy, and marks the advances in the programme’s testing activities.
It began testing with all engines and systems operating, in preparation for FAA certification flight testing.
The AW609 takes off and lands vertically, and is capable of flying within an envelope with cruise conditions up to 275 knots, at an altitude of 25,000 feet in a pressurised cabin, for flights with ranges up to 1000nm.
Further testing will include icing trials to test the AW609 in winter conditions.
